“Good buildings come from good people, and all problems are solved by good design”
In my first week of university, my lecturer took us to a street with historical buildings and asked us to sketch part of a building. So, we sat on the street for a few hours with a sketch pad and pencils, drawing. I think this was the start of my love of drawing buildings. After a while the building drawings became more technical in the university courses. Now, I enjoy the most when I can mix the technical elements and the ‘arty’ part of drawing buildings. I feel that these paintings constitute order alongside the random and chaotic brush strokes.
In this gallery, I have categorized the paintings and illustrations into two parts; buildings around the world and buildings in my home town, George Town. I feel privileged living in George Town, Penang. George Town was designated as a World Heritage Site in 2008. It has a mixture of exquisite buildings, all with different backgrounds and cultures. For me, it’s like having subjects ready to be painted.
