DESCRIPTION
This is the De Verwachting Windmill, it is a smock mill in Hollum, Netherlands. It was built in 1991 and is a working windmill. A smock mill is a type of windmill that consists of a sloping, horizontally weather boarded or thatched tower, usually with six or eight sides. It is topped with a roof or cap that rotates to bring the sails into the wind (Wikipedia). I have always been fascinated with windmills, especially those that are working. This particular windmill is used to make corn flour and mustard. I really enjoyed creating this painting as several processes were involved in its completion. I started by painting the sky and clouds, and then moved on to the foliage and finally the building. A video of this painting will be featured soon. I wish the sails could move though …
