DESCRIPTION
This portrait is part of my original painting of Black Rhinos; I then added a watercolor textured background to the portrait. This is one of my most favorite illustrations. The Black Rhino is critically endangered, with its biggest threat being poaching. There are massive demands for the Black Rhino’s horns which are used for traditional medicine. Next to poaching, loss of habitat contributes to the decline in the Black Rhino population (source, WWF). The most notable difference between White and Black Rhinos is their hooked upper lip. This distinguishes them from the White Rhino, which has a square lip.
