Watercolor Painting of Byodo in Kyoto

DESCRIPTION

The Byodo-In Temple is a non-denominational temple located on the Island of O’ahu in Hawaii at the Valley of the temples. It was dedicated in August 1968 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants arriving in Hawaii. The temple is a replica of a 900-year-old Buddhist temple at Uji in Kyoto, Japan (source Wikipedia). I decided to paint this particular temple because of its exquisite architecture and beautiful location, which is in a valley surrounded by pine forest hills. I think the background foliage was a great success, but it was a challenge painting the reflection of the whole structure in the river.
